Interesting point, We're in the process of designing artwork for our LP.

We're going 2 colour as its cheap and will do a black and white photo for the photo.

I can understand why their not blank though, wouldnt be so fun to look at.. Plus its nice to have some distinctive marks, even when your soundman, it helps to find it in *those* moments.

Ah i think LP are colour because many who buy dont play LP out and buy for home listening whereas 12" 7" mixes tend to have less colour.. parhaps based towards the soundman or dj?.

When vinyl was king record shops were wall to wall with the stuff. Racks and racks of the stuff, hours of work to look through them! Many covers from the latest releases would be pinned to the walls. So if there was anything the labels could do to make their records stand out, they would do it. Hence, colour, partly clothed ladies, outrageous artwork, cartoons, and more.

As an artist myself I am so glad to see art used wherever and whenever possible. Without it the LPs would still sound the same of course, but they wouldn't be quite so much of a joy to own.

ok i see your point, actually there should be always 2 version of a record, one with fancy sleeve for collectors and one for those who make a living promoting the music and rae rae. that would be tough. if i look on my sleeves they are all mashed up and it only tear up my heart see the wickid artwork going down th south lol

I know how you feel about sleeves getting damaged, i sometimes wonder if its better to just take them out and put them in cardboard sleeves instead but then i'd never look at the nice artwork in the first place!
