Hello

I'm new to this site and new to Roots Reggae really. A few years ago I discovered a wicked track called 'King of my Empire' vocalls by Cornell Campbell, I heard it walking through Portobello market, I found the source and bought it on dub plate. Since then my husband found me two more complation cd's of his which I love, he's got the sweetest voice - I find it so uplifting. My reason for posting is just to see if anyone can give me any more information about him and his music, or any recommendations of anything else I might like to check out along those lines. As I said I'm a new girl, so just looking for some helpful and interesting imput from those with more knowledge!

Hello Nancy, nice to see that you have good taste in reggae music. Cornell's one of the best.
He has sung and done records since the 1950s, was member of the Uniques and the Eternals and got big solo hits in the 1970s with Natty Dread In A Greenwich Farm, Stars and Queen Of The Minstrels and so on. Get his CDs I Shall Not Remove and The Minstrel, well worth it.

Yes.Cornel Campbell the reggae star that time seems to have forgot.Cornell is truly one of the greatests,Trojan recently released a good double cd of his and their are various compilations knocking around you won't go astray with any of them.

I've got I Shall Not Remove, and Original Blue Recordings 1970 - 1979, both brilliant.

I'll definately check out some of your other recommendations. I'm pleased I found this web site - this could be the beginning of a beautiful journey!!!

In my opinion, the best Cornell Campell album is Money. If you like Cornell give it a listen, because it's his most root-sy sounding LP.

Studio1 can never be wrong, but there are as well many cover-tunes on it. Man i just love "We're having a party" (think it's by sam cooke orginally).Campbellin his awesome sweet voice singing: "So listen, Mr DJ/ keep those records playing/ cause we're having such a good time/ dancing to the rockers" Blew my mind...
