Black Crucial

Post by Bellyman »

Does anybody know more about this brilliant vocal group ? Who were they ?
All I know is they recorded also as Black Crucials, released several 7" & 12 " singles between 1978 and 1983 and Prince Jammy had their one and only album, the showcase-style 'Mr.Sonny' from 1985, which is excellent. Check also their song on the 'Wanted' collection on Makasound, the single 'Ginalship' which is a highlight on this excellent record.
Any help is highly appreciated.

I found somewhere that their producer, or at least the man who took them to Jammy's, was some Michael Jamison.
Following your hint I got hold of mr. Sonny; thank you for the advice, Bellyman.

Hi

Dreadlocks Time is actually by Natural Vibes and appears on their "Life Hard A Yard" album, also produced by Jammys. It was credited to Black Crucials on a 12".

I just won the Mr Sonny album on Ebay and am awaiting it as I type.

Mr Sonny is credited to Black Crucial(s)

Could be wrong but I don't believe King Everall's Natural Vibes has any connection with Crucials apart from being both produced by Jammys

I, also would like to know more about this group. They are credited with singing backing vocals on Water Pumping (Greensleeves), by Johnny Osbourne. They appear on an excellent compilation, called Reggae Rockers (Black Joy). On it they sing Mr Vincent, but it's a different mix to the one that appears on the Mr Sonny album.
