Tune ID: "Take it step by step..."

Does this ring any bells? Starts with: "This world is a ladder, got to start at the bottom, before you can make it...to the top you got to..." and then the chorus:" Take it step by step" repeated afew times with a little bass in between. I'd love to know who it is. I had it on a mysterious unmarked cassette when I was a kid. I doubt it's anything too obscure, if that helps.

What era are we talking, 60's, 70' or 80's?

I'd guess late 70's, early 80's although it's been a good 10 years since I heard it. Maybe it's a bit more obscure than I thought. Over on the Blood and Fire site more sixty people saw the same post and no luck yet.
