I read the editorial, and am somewhat confused. Haile Selassie was supposed to defend Ethiopia with prayers? The reason he asked Europeans for help was that he was fighting a modern European army. Although outgunned in every way possible, he was an inspiration to his troops, who held out longer than the Polish or French troops fighting Hitler a few years later.

I think Marcus should have reserved his criticism for Mussolini, or for the League of Nations which pretty much stood by and watched it all happen.

It depends what you read with different versions.Does it really matter. They are in two seperate countries with different problems to face.
Its not a pitch battle between Lenox Lewis and Mike Tyson.
Its in the eye of the beholder.
And when history is re-writtern to start a confrontation between black people i question it.
We face different problems in different parts of the world.But to put in the end of your post heading Friends or Enemies is not the point. Lets have some positivity on both and the works they did.Then you got the Ethiopian Jews that wanted to go back to their homeland in Israel.Thats another story.

very interesting topic and a difficult fact to understand in rastafarian faith.. a critical prophet towards his God and King. But to contradict what was said before, the whole family of Selassie is not opposed or surprised by Rastafari faith, I have some friends who are know Selassie's descendant who is very much involved in rasta movement, he lives in England, don't remember if he's his son or nephew but he would have been the next king without Mengistu.. any more info bout' that ? I'll ask my friends when I see them about that man.

First off, Mongoose-tu (Menghistu) was NEVER the KING of ETHIOPIA neither are ANY of QEDAMAWI HAYLE SELLASSIE I's sons...The title of NEGUS (king) was abolished by H.I.M., for he was the last NEGUS of Ethiopia (1928ad)...
Next, ATSE HAYLE SELLASSIE I was non-partial and stood for INTERNATIONAL MORALITY..So using words like "hate" when it comes to Garvey, is non-sense.

I could read in a spanish forum a commentary about Marcus Garvey.
In that forum a man wrote this words:
"Marcus Garvey had said: Haile Selassie was a cowardly, a man with not much intelligence and a shame to the black people."
I love this two persons, and I don´t understand those words.
Are this words a true?
Did Marcus hate Selassie?
Can somebody explain to me all this questions?

probably him got twisted by the propaganda was spread all over about Selassie which is untrue, people were doing things in Selassie name to give him a bad image rite now ethiopia is suffering under those peopl still they call themself communists and thats why the flag got change but if yu know history and see di flag yu see it a penthagram symbolizing cyrius or wha it spell, same one as ill.u.m. and other ungodly acting men. mossiah was probably fooled by people back then there was no internet to quick look up soppn, yo and a prophet is nottin special still it a regular human who see some part of future, ok its not regular to be like dt but he is not Selassie himself. sorry if my words were not clear . Of course Mengistu was not a king he was a "socialist" revolionnary that led Ethiopia to tears and blood. But if Mengistu had not chased Selassie from the throne this guy we were talking about would have succeedeed to HIM.

How can Haile Selassie be the second coming, if You check the bible (I'll keep it short)it states that Elijah would return to make way for the second coming of the messiah, not in those specific words but you catch my drift and I'am not talking about the king James Made up version, even though its also written in that book of nonsense, but the Ethiopian bible which is THEE oldest and which all forms of Christian and Catholic bibles derive.

Except the king James version of the Holy Bible are missing 13 books which can be found only in the Ethiopic Bible.

And I come from a Rastafarian family, However my own personal research leads me to believe, that H.I.M was not the messiah for one reason and its common sense really, he changed nothing, nations did not bow before his feet, when Ethiopia was invaded by Italy why didn't he use his "devine powers" to vanquish evil instead of running to league of nations begging for help which they did not offer. And another point H.I.M did not once say he was the second coming .
Furthermore I must ask What has H.I.M really done for black people? Isn't the second coming suppose to free us from Bondage:
(The Physical, mental, and the spiritual enslavement of us all).
And the tyranny of Babylon:(The Western World).

I acknowledge the fact that H.I.M blood is of the line of Solomon, which can be traced but that's as far as it goes devine connection goes, on another note how many of us blacks that were slaved off over the last 800years are also descendent's of Solomon and other prophets, after all they were black too.
