My music is on records and cassettes, and can record them onto mini disk.
My question is How do i then get it on to the computer?
Would it be straight forward plugging in the mini disk to the computer?
From what i understand you cant put your turntable straight into the computer uness you got a UBS system.
Thanks for any help.
Peace

naw brudda, i have a NONusb turntable and i have it plugged into the line-in on my sound card (via plug adapters), and then if you go to download.com and download a wave editor to can archive all of your vinyl to your comp in any format you would like.

what i mean by plug adapter, is an adapter that will go from the two rca plugs coming out of your turntable to a 3.5 mm plug (the kind that you use all the time with headphones and stuff) and the sound card is a piece of hardware that you would install in your computer, it provides an input port for a microphone or other sound source and output ports to speakers and amplifiers. If you dont have one, no worries, you can use your motherboards' built in soundcard.
But like i said you would need that plug adapter to go from rca to 3.5mm

be careful with volume level if you plan to record from a turntable!
my advice if you're not good at using computers:
- if you have a good mixer, use it to set volume level and equalization. then connect the "rec out" output of your mixer to the "line in" of your computer with the
- to record, I think that windows (or office) have a recorder. maybe someone here can confirm this.
this way,you won't have to install any software, soundcard etc.

I can guarantee you that the volume level coming from a phono (or a mic) is REALLY different from cd, md players etc. that's why you have different inputs on your stereo, mixer AND computer. if you use the "line in" from your computer, you need to set volume level UNLESS it sets automatically to the right source (microphone, phono or others) at the right volume .
hope it will be useful

Yeah Stepping razor! No worries!
i wouldnt use any default program that windows gives you.
you dont need a soundcard, just plug into the line in you already have, you dont need to mess with the mixer...just set the volume at a reasonable level, and dont change it while you are recording, obviously you will have to record everything at real time.
As far as the software you will download, it will more than likely be a trial run and will expire after 15 days or something, and i would just delete it and then you can just go and download it again

Re: How Do You Upload Music To The Computer?
I have been told about Audacity software that will do all that which is free and lasts for ever.
Windows is only useful for hearing what you are recording on the sofware, just like being a monitor.
Some body is going to send me the right software and have found very useful info on the Audacity site.
Thanks everybody.
Peace
