I'm only 18 years old, and i'm really sad that people from my age dont enjoy roots music, for me Roots is what i love most, it's true i can't find much roots party's here and that's sad.. And i see in my friends what you say youths don't feel roots they only like this new roots and dancehall vibes of nowadays.

As being part of two soundsystems. We do get some younger people (20s) at the dances and most of them are well into the roots music that we play, mostly 70s and 80`s roots with some quality tunes from the 90`s and only play things from the year 2k if one of the crew made the tune, dubplate or cd.But that would be for our own promotion.
Why would a sound play another sounds record to promote them. it dont work like that.
I think its really good when the younger generation like and enjoy music that was made before they were born, just like when i was younger finding out about music before i was born. Jazz and blue note proper soul singers and all that went past, and you find out what style of music you enjoy. Its all part of music and music history.
Peace

Steppa,
Know what you mean, especially regarding the Blue Note sound of the late 50`s - mid 60`s.
I used to go to many a club in London during the 80`s that specialised in playing Hard Bop and Latin Jazz that was recorded before I was born.
I really loved the vibe the music generated and often wondered how fantastic that scene would have been back in the 50`s / 60`s when the music was fresh.
I imagine that is very similar to the younger generation who are getting into roots and dancehall music that was recorded way before they were born.

Yer i went to some of them hard bop and latin jazz clubs in the 80s and the jazz dancing was amazing, with all their new dance moves they had made up.Hip hop had a great jazz background thats been lost long ago.But for the jazz, hip hop, and roots dances and scene there was involment for everyone, from dancing , to graf art to players of instruments everyone one felt involved.unlike today where they look in as a spectator sport rather than get involved.
Peace

as a member of the younger generation i must tell you this is not true, maybe for some of the youth that came or come from money.but if you go into the rougher neighborhoods you will find very authentic roots dances. its all about knowing your hood and where things happen. and im not talking about digital or dancehall vibes im talkin straight old school 70s roots confrences. where all the people are their for the music and the vibe that it gives. i have posted on a similar thread about the scene where im from and how i thought it wasnt right but have recently discovered where the tru dances are. you would be suprised to see so many youth totally into 70's and early 80's roots music.

@ Rootsman (and Steppah)
I went to a really cool club in the early 90s in South London. It was just south of Southwark Bridge, but North of the Elephant.
I don't remember the name of the club but it was basically a fairly small terraced (I think) residential house, maybe just a two up two down. Converted into a really eclectic Jazz and Blues club.
It was like going to a really good private party! The vibe was very intimate and really cool, no bother in the dance.
Anyone know where I am talking about because I really can't even remember now what street it was in.
I'd love to do the same with a reggae club, but sadly I bet you just couldn't do it nowadays due to nuff red tape.
