Jack Ruby HI FI

Can anyone tell me if the above title is any good as I am not familiar with the artists or titles.

I have the Jack Ruby presents Black Foundation and Dub sets and wondered if the hi fi set was in a similar vein.

Not so good for me, i like the Ken Boothe song and the earth last messenger only...
Lennox Miller toast on a flat roots, and the Revealers are just kool...
The bands who left are dubbers.

While it is a different than the Black Foundation sets, I love Jack Ruby in Hi-Fi. I've had it for almost 20 years. Its one of the few albums I've held onto that long. Three of the tunes are followed by their dubs. But even the vocals have a heavy dub vibe throughout.

Khomeni Skank- dub to Peace Time
Brezinsky Dub- dub to Hypocrites
Rikers Island Dub- dub to Jail House Free

Much closer to the Black Foundation sets is "Black Slavery Days". This actually features an alternate to "Come Away Jah Jah Children". Again most of the tunes are followed by dubs.

Though neither set is as strong as the BF sets IMO,both are still enjoyable albums.

I tink Jack Ruby was a very special producer. I would reccommend this album. It depends on wether you want to own Jack Ruby's work. Many think he was not involved with T.S.O.S.A, although the Jury's out.

I second Fabroots regarding the good tunes on the set. The Ken Boothe is IMO a real killer.

The Revealers tune also exist as 12" with a different (and harder from memory) mix.

Still a good LP tho'.

I have to agree what some others already said. The Ken Boothe Song is heavy. I don't like the other songs that much.

There's a great live sound system set with Briggy on the mike.... excellent cuts of Dennis Brown and Sammy dread... its out there on LP, but can't find it here. Well worth finding!

I have a Jack Ruby 1981 sound tape that's billed Nicodemus Vs. Briggy. Mostly its all Demus though U.Brown & Lui Lepki make appearences. Good sound and great show overall. However, one should keep in mind that this is nothing like the other Jack Ruby sets described here and this is PURE Dancehall at its nicest.

Yes ital, this LP (called Birgadier Jerry "Live At The Control"). The begining of the set with Briggy over DEB's "Trouble World" and "To The Foundation" is killer. The rest is very good to.

I've heard of this album Wareika. Don't know if its the same show. Unfortunately, on the disc I have, which is billed as a Clash between Demus & Briggy (Fat Jaw even starts the night off by pointing out the ballot boxes) Briggy isn't featured. His arrival is announced by Lui Lepki to great applause, but he never turns up on the mike. Lui gives it back to Demus and then U.Brown comes in at the end. Despite Briggy's absence its still a great show with the DJ's (95% is Demus) riding great JUNJO/RADICS riddims like Firehouse Rock, Folly Ranking,& Gunman, as well as Armageddeon(Real Rock), Bobby Babylon & Cornell's Boxing. I'll have to keep my eyes out for the Briggy lp. However, I do have a tape from Jah Love from the early 80's with Briggy mashing the whole thing. Very few could hold down a sound like Papa Briggy & Demus IMHO-I'd love to hear them head to head.
