PLEASE HELP! I'm looking for info on Linton Cooper!

Post by opus 131 »

Greetings music lover, all hail to music power!

I'm looking for information about Linton Cooper.
"You'll get your pay", backed brilliantly by the Brentford Disco Set (available on 'Studio One Roots' on Souljazz Records) is in my humble opinion one of the heaviest & deepest & greatest roots tunes around. Absolutely amazing! That's why I would like to hear some other stuff
but I can't seem to find any other Linton Cooper recordings...
Is this possible? Or has he recorded using another name maybe?

Does anyone of you know a bit more about him?
I would be very greatful!

Thanks and respect in advance!

Bless,

Gino

"You'll Get Your Pay" (Money Disc) 7" is the only recording in the Studio 1 catalogue by LINTON Cooper.

"Happy Birthday" (Money Disc 7") & "Wicked Man" (Studio 1 disco) are next, but by a LINVAL Cooper.

Probably a different singer?

I can't help with information on Linton Cooper but just for the fun of it here is a quote of Reggae music veteran Chris Lane when he reviewed "You'll get Your Pay" for the 'Deep Roots Music' documentary back in 1982 :
'The advantages in having your own studio are not purely financial - musicians on a weekly wage can spend more time on their own ideas and occasionally come up with something as odd as this record. A timeless 'reality' lyric, an exceptionally miserable vocal performance, and possibly reggae's most out-of-tune piano all add up to an unforgettable record.'
:)
rougher yet

Thanks for the reactions!

I don't know Linval Cooper. Maybe I should check him out...

Nice quote, Bellyman!

Cheers,
