Hi DonDigital

Do you mean sonically or are you referring to the actual riddims?
If you mean sonically, and I assume you don't, Channel 1 had the advantage of having better equipment.
If you mean riddims, and I assume you do, surely it's much easier when you are cherry picking as opposed to pushing the outer envelope?

Let's face it those Studio 1 riddims have blood, sweat, tears and a love in them that Channel 1 can't possibly have because when the latter laid down their versions the hard work had already been done.
i man talk bout recordings in general, to me theres almost no record better than di other @channel1 all tune have same, how me to say.. maybe spiritual level while coxsone is driving up & down with all kind of mood. dat i talk bout, could be because him long time in the bizniz and was trying some things but to me channel 1 created a new way of playing/recording the instrument, in general channel one come in cool & deadly and coxsone dont lol yo im a big coxsone supporter but channel one was the real bad man in this one. coxsone is like father channel 1 the son. almost no chance to say whos better but father is a father still. to me i had a similar ting today like whos da better one supercat or demus, i could not say because to me there must be both.

Channel one everytime, but not as a studio alone. It was the combination of musicians, producers, engineers and taking the tapes to tubbys to be mixed that made this studio one of the most important milestones in the history of Jamaican music.

Studio 1 was the Alpha,Channel 1 was the Omega.

I love the late 70s and early 80s Channel One stuff. But Studio One will always be my favorite. The Burning Spear, Gladiators, Ethiopians, Freddy McKay, Cornell Campbell, and Lone Ranger recordings, IMO, cannot be beat.

The crucial thing for me is that I definitely prefer the old SOUND of Studio One to the the newer SOUND of Channel One. I find myself wishing that that my favorite Channel One songs had been recorded earlier at Studio One, so they would have that old sound (the exception to this statement would be the Roots Radics stuff, which I wouldn't want to sound any other way.) I don't know why the old sound is more aesthetically pleasing to my ears, but it is, without a doubt.
