Yes kalcidis,
there´s a Miles Davis song where he´s backed ina reggae style. It´s a live recording, I listened to it around 20 yrs ago...but unfortunately I don´t have a clue what the song/album is called.
Any ideas, pls??
Nuff greetings,

dun kno bout a Miles Davis Recording in reggae...would be def. coolkalcidis wrote:I think the worst possible thing would be if an artist like Elton John or nowadays Stevie Wonder tried to produce a reggae hit.
It would have been cool to hear Miles Davis or some other classic jazz cat try on reggae though.
"Manu Dibango a la Jamaique" is a mellow crossover ting
Don Jerry´s album "Home Boy" has a reggae-touch here and there....wikkid album anyway
kno a pretty crazy reggaeish-track by Jako Pastorius, cant tink of the name though...

He was a true promoter of Jamaican music, his twist on the genre was totally genuine and in the spirit of Buster's later dirty records. His version of Je t'aime never fails to make me laugh, his interpretation is very British, just as Jackie Mitoo's take was very Jamaican.
Other international artists just borrowed stylistic elements from reggae and didn't do it respectfully, they were being magpies.
Having said that, I love Master Blaster

Doubting Stevie Wonder's musicality is not a good look. Bet he'd do a great job.

Elton John did try that! Though it was back in the days when he was Reg Dwight. Young, Gifted & Black anyone?
