Greetings!
I'll be traveling to Addis Abba, Ethiopia in a few months. I was wondering if anyone has been to this city in Ethiopia and has any suggestions of some good sights and/or any rasta related culture happenings around town. Many Thanks..

but plz take care at nite times there are some mean battyman walkin street and waiting for fereigners walkin alone, when they catch one they wrap him some chemical substances in a towel over the head so yute fall asleep and nuh memba wat happened in the nite. this is no joke. this is happening alot. they put man asleep and rape him through the nite.
gunshots are also dangerous to be out at nite. there are many political problems rite now since communists are operating the system.

Really guys you can't be serious. I don't believe a single word of your nightly gay rape scenario. Who fed you that story? In fact Addis is one of the safest cities in Africa. The only thing that you should really watch out for is con schemes like somebody says he wants to show you this or that cultural thing and in the end you are presented with a big bill you are supposed to pay. Famous among these is the coffee ceremony trick. Definitely don't run to Kenya if you are afraid of violent crime because you are much more likely to encounter it there.
Why are you asking about Addis in particular? Will you be stuck there because of work? I found the town quite ugly and would advice to leave for the countryside if you can. You will probably bump into the occasional Rasta in Addis, but the focal point of Rastafari activity in Ethiopia is of course Shashamane (btw not only Rastas live there).
Regarding sights in Addis I would recommend the Ethnological Museum located in the University Campus. Apart from getting an introduction to various traditional Ethiopian cultures you will see Haile Selassie's former bath and bedroom. A mirror there still holds a bullet hole from the 1960 coup d'etat. Entoto makes for a nice day trip from Addis. At Merkato (many claim it is the biggest market in Africa) you can take in many impressions and also do your shopping more cheaply if you manage to find the right area for what you are looking for. Beware of pickpockets though.

Tanzania is the best place I have been too. Addis is a busy bustling place but not a lot going on outside of the hustle. I never did venture to the rasta dwellings. Had some fun in Kenya aswell but things aint stable there at all right now. If it is a taste of Africa you want Tanzania wont dissapoint and Tanzanian people are so friendly.
