Heart of the Ark

Post by Chris »

Hello All,

I just received the CD, Heart of the Ark by L. Perry on the Seven Leaves label and all of the tracks seem to be mislabeled! Tracks flow into one another for example L. Sibbles' Rasta Fari is listed as 1:31 (and is the second track and not the first), but ends 1:30 into the track mislabled as 4&20 Dreadlocks, which is actually the first half of Elaine by Mystic Eyes. In other words the music is great but the tracklisting is a train wreck.

Does anyone else have this CD on Seven Leaves and if so are the tracks on your's all messed up, or did I just get the lucky disc?

Thanks,
Chris

Sorry to say it but this is the sort of thing to expect when you buy these CD re-issues. Some of them are great, but so many of them are really poorly put together.

This is exactly what drove me back into the arms of that most terrible high rent temptress, Mistress Vinyl.

a lot of original vinyls are mislabelled, this is definitely not a good excuse :D
a lot of original vinyls are poorly pressed too.

Chris,I realise this is after the event, but the CD " Larks From The Ark " takes almost all the tracks of " Heart Of The Ark " ,adds some more and is not mislabelled.Could be worth tracking down ???

Er yes, I have used this excuse before and got busted that time. Guilty as charged. You know that addicts will use all kinds of excuses to explain why they do it. :)

But when I got a certain King Tubby LP on CD and realised it was merely a bad recording taken direct from a not perticularly healthy vinyl LP I decided to stop buying reggae CDs.

I thought to myself "If I am going to buy a CD and get a poor recording of an LP, I might as well buy LPs and make good recordings.

I think the actual moment when I went from gathering up all my old tunes again on CD, to gathering them up on vinyl was when I realised that 'In Fine Style' by Ranking Trevor, was unavailable on CD. Being unwilling to accept a pirate copy I bought a record deck and a copy of the LP. I planned to simply record the vinyl, and a ew others, burn them onto CD and resell them on ebay.

It didn't work out because once I heard vinyl again, for the first time in perhaps 15 or more years, I realised I loved that sound.

So began my downward spiral into the murky world of vinyl addiction (not to mention Hi-Fi addiction!).

My copy has a correct track-listing, no problems (cddb/Gracenote infos, which are matching the cover's track infos) :

1. Rasta Fari / Leroy Sibbles 2:34
2. Rasta Fari - Combination Two / Leroy Sibbles 1:31
3. 4 & 20 Dread Locks / Prodigal Creator 3:01
4. Nuh Fe Run Down / Lee Perry 3:44
5. Ellaine / Mystic Eyes 4:12
6. I've Never Had It So Good / Bunny 'Ruggs'...2:44
7. What's The Use / Bunny 'Ruggs' Scott 3:24
8. Don't Be Afraid / George Faith 5:23
9. Forward With Love / Mystic Eyes 3:53
10. Reggae Music / Preacher 5:24
11. Brotherly Dub / Lee Perry 5:45

Thanks to everyone for the comments.

Nicholas, that is the exact tracklisting I have and times, also from Gracenotes. I have a feeling your reissue is the same as mine. Your times are also off, the L. Sibbles song is approximately 3:00 min long, not 2:34 or 1:31, I bet if you listen to the CD again you'll find it flows into the tune labled 4&20 Dreadlocks.

Trevor, I'm going to look for the album you mention!

Chris

Well, it's just that tracks 1 and 2 from the CD were one on the LP, in a combination style (part 2 uses a different, faster cut of the rhythm).
So these 2 together form "Rastafari" (2'34" + 1'31" = 4'05" total time).
