does anybody feel the same way?

Post by Greg »

recently bought willie williams LP messanger man
i felt it was bogus, the timing is off on several tracks as well as the rhythm piano and guitar. i feel this lp is not worth getting, and for the first time in my life i like the dub better than the vocal. anybody else feel this way?

Has been discussed before as this release won "Best Album" on the Roots Archives 2005 awards.

I have to agree with you. It is a horrible LP in every way and not worth purchasing (I'm glad I didn't). It's really that bad.

Talking Loud & Saying Nothing - Willie Williams 7" Drum Street.
People should be checking out the singles rather than lps.
LP tracks of a tune are always softer than the singles.

MightyZ uses LPs when playing out but admits it's not the best situation. It's harder to get the cueing right and they are quieter than 12" 45s usually.

Yeah i would of thought that, hm. Theres only a few Lp's i take out to play, the tunes that i struggle to find on 7/'12. Such a big variation in the different versions available on single too, for example Rise and Shine by Bunny Wailer is totally dif version when comparing LP and 7/12"

Your missing out on the proper dubs if you dont get 7`s and on 12s there is at least two dubs and a toasting cut.
It is different with original dub lps but they are taken from singles or disco and done in the engineers sytlee King Tubby, Scientist and the like.
For playing out its more differcult with lps cuing it up if your using one turntable.
I would only buy an LP if 75% of the tracks are good if there is one or two tracks you like from an LP it is cheaper to get the single with the dubs and harder mix.
