Re: 1974-1980 reviews on current reggae releases...
Funny how the memory can fade and then be suddenly jogged hard back to life.
I recently bought Cultural Roots, Revolutionary Sounds (vocal). I knew it was a well respected LP but I didn't think I knew what it sounded like. The second the needle hit the wax and the first bars began to play I was transported back to a smokey room in Portsmouth in 1979. I was listening to one of my very best favourite vocal LPs and I had totally 100% forgotten I had owned it. But as I played it, I sang along, knew the tune fo the next track, etc, just like my memory had never failed me.
The human brain, amazing isn't it?

Merci bien, Monsieur T, great hint.
Z-90 by Trinity pounding behind when writing this.
In the 70's Black Music was nearly the only source of information about reggae here far away.
A few days ago I found out when leafing through some that Chris May et al were not very much rydim oriented, not usually mentioning the original rhythm in their reviews. Not knowing, not caring?
Up to 1979 BM was a decent mag, but whatever happened thereafter?
