Searching For Old Reggae Masterpiece - Please Help?!

Post by PhillyVince »

My Father has an old mix tape that he recorded off of a Saturday night reggae show on Philadelphia's WDAS FM approximately 15-20 years ago. He cherishes this tape, and I have been able to help him identify many of the songs and have purchased them for him over the years. However, there is one (the best song on the tape, and one that we have been researching for years) escapes me. The recording is not of decent quality, and the words are hard to make out. The tape is on its last legs, and my father will be heartbroken if he can't listen to one of his favorite songs ever again (as will I, as it is a truly great song).

The beginning of the song seems to be sung by a male youth, who at one point sings "rock it in the rub a dub style". Later, an adult male voice sings: "praise Jah and his mighty hands" and "praise Jah in this century". The song seems to conclude with the line "say farewell to all Babylon world".

If anyone can help me identify this song, I (and my father) will be eternally grateful.

Much Respect,
Vincent from Philadelphia

Sorry I can't help with the song. But I would suugest making a copy(or 2) of the tape and playing the copy so as to preserve the original as long as possible.

Greetings.

I seem to recall a track by Sugar Minott with lyrics very similar but the title eludes me.

I will try and find out.

Thanks for your efforts. I continue to search unsuccessfully. However, I will try to get what is on the tape onto CD and turned into an MP3 sample, and maybe then we can get it identified. I will try to get this over the weekend. Thanks again for all of your help.

My father brought the recording of the song to me this weekend, and my brother-in-law is going to transfer it to an .mp3 file. I will find a place to upload it, and will post a link to the file as soon as I set it up.

Many thanks for all who have responded and who are trying to assist me in our search.

Much Respect,

Vince from Philadelphia

Ok. Brother-in-law has the tape and is burning it tonight. I will look for a place to upload it to today and hopefully have it posted so you can listen tonight or tomorrow. Thank you for your help and patience.
