King Tubby

Post by Clare »

Are the following 2 titles any good, they are both on the Burning Sounds label

1, King Tubby meets Scientist in a world of dub.
2, King tubby meets Scientist at the dub station.

They are both recorded in the eigties.

Could you tell me what period of the eigties they are from and are they worth purchasing.

I`ve heard that a lot of King Tubby compilations are a bit of a rip off and that not all releases with his name on were actually mixed by him.

Are these genuine releases that are worth my money

Thanks again

I would`nt mind knowing if these are any good. I have the Dubbing with horns on said label which isn`t bad.

I to am not sure which are King Tubbys best titles to search out.

So come on, give us some direction here please

While I love King Tubby, Scientist & Jah Thomas I've always found these sets to be a little bit boring. I asked about this on another board and someone said they thought these were all like alternate takes or something as the dubs on the original 7's were far better.
As far as Scientist goes the Greensleeves Lp's like Heavyweight Champ, Wins World Cup, Rids the Curse, etc. are generally excellent.
For King Tubby a great place to start are the Blood & Fire compilations-my favorites being "Termination Dub" and "Freedom Sounds in Dub". The 3 Bunny Lee sets, Dub Gone Crazy (1 & 2) and "Dub Like Dirt" and the 2 Yabby U sets "Prophecy of Dub" and "Dub it to the Top" are also very good.

Clare, my local library has both those albums...not bad at all .i wouldnt pay more than 8 pounds for either one in truth though. ripoffs...Creole records and esp. Rhino records ..some real naff, late 60s early 70s tinny juke box dub on crackly cds..avoid. Sean
