Now that the first 3 groups have played i gotta say that just few teams did well. Portugal played well but could have been way more efficient, Germany showed a decent game against poland and holland played absolutely fantastic vs. italy - best game so far.
The other so called "favourites" disappointed me; France and Kroatia didn't look good (nor did their opponents) but on top the chzech republic with an almost embarrassing win vs switzerland. At least a tie would have been fair, but thats life..
Of group D i think only the spanish have real talent. On the other hand, they never reach far in tournaments.
Totaly off topic but i love this thread!

@Survival - after seeing Holland yesterday I'm becoming 100% Oranje:D You played extremely good (tu)(tu)(tu)
I remember EURO 1988, first tournament I ever watched and Holland beating USSR was A THING!!!

I also support Spain and Czech Republic. With Croatia: they are in the same group as Poland, so sorry boys, this time I don't like them that much:D Davor Suker - those were the times:)

Holland did great last night against Italy. Classic game! Hopefully we will keep it up against France and Romania. And of course Holland vs. Germany is the dream final for everybody in the Netherlands. Still: the tournament has just started, let's not dream too much yet.

Shame that Poland did not score against Germany: thought Smolarek scored a clear goals there.

I must admit would love to see Holland win having had a soft spot for them for as long as I can remember (I was, for example, totally gutted when they lost to Argentina in the 1978 World Cup Final).

That said, my experience of watching this type of tournament tells me that the teams that come out of the blocks quickly peak too early and, sadly, tend not to win them.

On the other hand the ones that stutter early on (but, obviously, do just enough to progress), often peak at the right time. So, with this in mind I am going for Germany as eventual winners.

Spain played really well yesterday (and Russia very naive). So far Porutgal, Spain, Holland and Germany started very good. Hard to predict who will win the tournament in the end. I think you need a bit of luck to reach and win the final. Look at 1988: Holland started really poor against the USSR, then beat England (three goals by Van Basten) and were so luky in the last group match against the Irish. The following two matches (Germany in the semi and again the USSR in the final) were absolutely classic, edged into the memory of every Oranje fan. Twenty years ago already.
