Studio One re-issues

Post by Dizzle »

I'm only just starting to scratch the surface of this amazing hub of Jamaican music, but I'm somewhat skeptical about buying vinyl re-issues. At the same time, hunting down the originals is going to be costly and time consuming. Can anyone tell me about the quality of Studio One re-issues? Do I have reason to be concerned?

The reissues I have sound pretty good to me. If you like I will do a original/reissue head-to-head tonight and let you know my views tomorrow.

Let's hope the reissues don't sound better! :)

Ah, looking forward to hearing the results to that test! Everytime I go to the Downbeat Special website I discover new Studio One gems to listen to.

Only had a chance to play "African Rub..", but both the original and reissue sound wall-shakingly superb. No discernible difference soundwise as far as I was concerned.

First of all, congrats on having the original African Rub a Dub ^_^ Second, thanks for doing the test. I have to admit I have hadnt a problem with the represses yet so I'll keep on buying them, especially as they are so readily available and at such low cost from places like reggaerecord.com.

Hi Dizzle

That was a *must-have* original as far as I was concerned.:)

I do have quite a few Studio One reissues and don't remember being disappointed with any of them.

One that I will try and check tonight though is **["Hi Fashion Dub Top Ten"](http://www.downbeat-special.co.uk/DUB/hifashiondub.html)**, as the one I have has, if I remember rightly, morphed into **["Hi Fashion Dub Top Fourteen"](http://www.downbeat-special.co.uk/DUB/hifashion14.html)**

Not sure whether those extra tracks have had a detrimental effect or not.

Out of all the studio one LP's I own this is my favorite Compilation. A nice selection of Crucial Roots tunes on one side. And sweet lovers tunes on the other.

Wow. I'm going to have to get Pirate's Choice for the cover alone, I think, and Hi-Fashion Dub sounds like a killer Dub Specialist LP. Cheers for the recommendations.

Just picked it up from Revival Records. Thanks for the heads-up.
