Does someone know how this lp was made. It doesn't sound like a 77' Mighty Diamonds Style and is produced in the Usa and there's no musicians from the reggae scene.
Al toussaint (the producer) = Motown ?
Why did the Mighty do this Lp wich is more soul than reggae ? I would like to know what was the deal.
Thanks

Re: Ice on fire / Mighty Diamonds
This album was made in New Orleans, and produced by Toussaint who is a legendary New Orleans producer. This album includes several covers of classic New Orleans songs and uses New Orleans session players. This album was intended for the American market in an attempt to achieve cross-over success. Although definitely not roots, this album has very good musicianship, and actually represents a nice soul album.

"Ice On Fire is great... as an example of what should not to do.
I listened it through to make sure of my memories that it is not a reggae album nor a soul album but only a sad case. I have used it as an example of how black(?) musicians in New Orleans couln't get reggae rydim right.
Front cover is nice.
To the same lot I'd like to put "Good Thing Going" by Sugar Minott. The back cover of Sugar with Radix is great, though.

Can't agree about 'Good Thing Going'. It may be a 'cross-over' hit with plenty of pop injection but it is a great reggae anthem.
But Ice-On Fire has consistently failed to light my fire!

Well, to me the top five Sugar LP's are:
Showcase
With Lots of Extra
Sufferer's Choice
Black Roots
Ghetto-ology
Comparing 'Good Thing Going' to them is irrelevant but I think songs and the production on it are not up to the Minott standard.
'Roots Lovers' and 'Bitter Sweet' are good ones of the 'lighter' Minott.

Iman remember when this mess came out....Iman wrote a scathing review for a newspaper that Iman was freelancing for at the time. Having been exposed to rootsier sounds at the time, this "American" release was a complete insult to I&I. It wasn't even good as a Toussaint record! Never listened to it again, nor do Iman care to. Iman LOVE the Diamonds but don't need that record fe Icollection.
While I&I are speaking Mighty Diamonds....a while back Iman saw a 2-CD set online (eBay, Amazon or whatever)called "The Mighty Diamonds At Channel One". Didn't buy it at the time (like a fool!) or have ever seen it since! Iman think it was a German release. Does this exist??

'Slice of the Cake' should never be left out of a Sugar greats list. It is far too good to ignore!rokkimake wrote:Well, to me the top five Sugar LP's are:
