Yabby You productions - what do you make of these albums?

Post by Pots n Pans »

I've been listening to some of my favourite tracks from 'Dub It To The Top', 'Jesus Dread' and 'King Tubbys Prophesy Of Dub' over the weekend, and although they were some of the first reggae records I bought, they still blow me away.

So I was wondering about these:
[cover=814,949][cover=87,94][cover=1962,2318][cover=469,578]
Any recommendations for any of these? I've had a scan through the board on various favourite album threads, but I don't recall any of these getting a mention. Was a while ago though, and my memory isn't all that.

And does the 'King Tubby Meets Vivian Jackson' LP have several of it's tracks on CD 2 of the 'Jesus Dread' collection? Cos some of the titles are identical. Which, as we all know, doesn't mean a thing in the world of reggae. Just want to save myself a bit of money if I can!

I have all of these except "King Tubby meets Vivian Jackson". If you like the heavy, dread sound of the Yabby You compilations you had listed--then, you would like these as well. Michael Prophet sounds great on these earlier productions.

I'd start with Consciousness (it is his best) and then pick up the other two. Beware though that my copy of "Stars in a Disco Showcase" has fairly poor sound quality. It is on the vinyl that Yabby You released in the last ten years or so. I don't know if an original would sound better (it probably would).

"King Tubby meets Vivian Jackson" is an absolute must-have. The Tubby side contains the heaviest, hardest dub cuts I have ever heard.

"Conciousness," and "...Meets Scientist At The Dub Station" are both very nice. Some of the dubs from "Meets Scientist" are off of the great Michael Prophet album "Know The Right." Also worth a mention is early Wayne Wade, especially "Fire Fire."

Ernie B's has clips of all of the aforementioned albums so if you're hesitant, just have a listen.

"King Tubby Meet Vivian Jackson" is one of the all-time greats... the difference between the tracks on "jesus dread" and "...meet..." is that the tracks on "...meet..." are in lovely stereo and although mastered a little quietly from vinyl, still makes for a gorgeous warm listen... can't say enough!
