Junior Reid - Jailhouse Rock

Post by patrickp »

Is this the original track for this rhythm? I absolutely love this back track, I originally heard it as a rhythm on Jammy's Conspiracy On Neptune and Tubby's Harder Dub.

I'm sorry patrickp, I can't answer your question, but this is a hard riddim for sure!

I am also a bit confused by this track. I bought the "Original Foreign Mind" LP (Black Roots)on which this song is entitled "Hunts Bay." The production is credited to Sugar Minott, and the engineering is credited to Peter Chemist, but in the video link below, Prince Jammy claims production. The Dub is also the title track on "The Crowning of Prince Jammy." Please, who is it?

After watching the very cool clip on Youtube I too got curious. I've known the riddim for years and have one Dub version 'Harder Dub' on the Esoldun release 'Shining Dub'.
I can't add to what has already been said but a few days ago I added a post to my blog (so thrilled was I to see the clip of Jammy mixing, Bunny Lee dancing and Scientist wid di ganja - it is him isn't it?).

As always accurate credits in some of the older releases by less than rigorous reissue labels are hard to come by. A number of albums credited to King Tubby released in the 90s likely are mixed by Tubby himself, Prince Jammy, Scientist, Fatman and perhaps a couple of others. Sometimes the mixing styles are fairly obvious, often not at all...

And no doubt this same riddim did the rounds of a few producers and singers over a brief time period making it just as confusing and fun as so many other riddims of the time!
