maybe its just that the radics defined the sound in the early 80's, so other everyone want that sound yunno, other bands copy that approach and style. i man prefer chinna and the high times over radics...just my opinion

Both bands helped to define the sound of the "golden era". The Roots Radics seem to be the band that all others are compared to and put out the most hits of the two. However, the High Times Players had a few superior tracks in my opinion. Both are mashin.

I would say that I can hear the difference between a track backed by the High Times Band and the Radics. Both are great but they do have different sounds.

I've just been spinning this slightly-schmaltzy-but-nevertheless-great Channel One Michael Prophet LP, engineered by Scientist:

[cover=1443,1671]

8 of its 10 tracks are played by the High Times Band, and the other 2 are played by the Roots Radics. The Radics cuts are certainly the heaviest, but I wouldn't say there's any difference in the quality of the material...

High Times to me had a different kinda style, more raw perhaps and not as polished as most of the Radics stuff. Think they backed most material that released on the Corner Stone label. But still, give thanks for the musicians, regardless who they are.

Early Roots radics material has Santa on drums who also played for High Times band,also if both recorded at channel one and mixed by scientist at Tubbys you will most definately have a similar sound
