Amusing album review...

Post by Zionist »

Have been listening to the excellent Honest Jons compilation of Cedric Brooks & The Light of Saba, and was curious to see how this excellent set was critically received.

Came across this review from a reputable Jazz site
http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=896 and was stunned and amused by the authoritative first sentence:

"Horns have almost always been delegated a background role in Jamaican music, and even as such not a particularly interesting one anyway."

Anyone have similar examples of mainstream cluelesness?

Some review i read a while ago..it said that Lee Perry's "Panic in Babylon" was dull compared to other stuff he has done..but to me "Panic in Babylon" is exceptionally well. Most of the reviewers dunno what they're talking about.

I used to subscribe to Alternative Press magazine about 10-12 years ago. It rarely ever reviews reggae releases. When Steel Pulse's "Sound System" compilation came out, however, they made an exception to the rule.

The reviewer gave it one finger (out of five) and went on to talk about how he thought reggae in general was dumb. It was one of the most uninformed reviews I've ever read.
