Post by Papa Ahmz »

Hello everyone. In regards to Alton Ellis's hit "I'll be Waiting", who originated that song? i KNOW i've heard an old R&B/soul version of the tune, so whose was it? Thank you.

According to all sources available this is an original composition.
In the liner notes to the 'Alton & Hortense Ellis' album on Heartbeat (HB 64) Roger Steffens wrote
" 'I'll be waiting' was written (by Alton Ellis) for a friend of Alton's who had requested that he compose a song for him. Four days later Alton was given some recording time by Coxsone (Dodd) and that was the only song he had; it remains one of his favourites."
