Post by Track Star »

HI i just bought this :

I had seen there was a 2003 reissue how do i know if i have the original?I know on some its easy to determine but my copy has no signs of modern re issue.It really makes no diffence to me i am just curious.

Bar codes. Is the way most things are released with these days. The originals dont have bar codes from the 70`s and 80`s. Thats one way of knowing.

When it comes to 7" singles its a mine feild. Weight of the plastic, smooth and rough labels. And if a tune has been released on 4 labels in 5 countrys in one year. which is the original!!

For instance:
[cover=339,390][cover=3765,390]
original...........................re-issue

But the re-issue is different in that the dubs are cut well short, so its not a re-press.

Some times you get funny comments next to the matrix numbers.

I bought the Wayne Jarret "Showcase Vol 1" LP in the early 80's. The CD when first released was called "Bubble Up", then retitled on a subsequent release.

The re-issue in 2004 was also on vinyl which is not listed in the RA archives. Either way the 2004 CD or vynil has all the dubs cut well short.

The original issue of JAMAICA TODAY THE SEVENTIES (in split stereo) was released on a yellow & black Studio 1 label and has the matrix number FCD 7701 scratched into the run-off grooves. It was subsequently reissued with the matrix number SO 1822, also in split stereo (probably on a black & white Studio 1 label). And a later reissue (on a red & yellow Studio 1 label with the Brooklyn, USA address) has the matrix number CSL 8022, and is in mono.

usually it will tell you were it was pressed on the vinyl.
all of the original copies i have say they were pressed in J.A usually but not always a repress is somewhere in the u.k or the u.s or canada. this becomes more complex if your record was pressed in different places when it was first released. or if its roots that was released outside of J.A

I have an early press of this LP bought in the late 70s or early 80s at rhythm record in London (not by me but I know who bought it).

It has the FCD 7701 matrix, split stereo and large groove only.

But funily, it has 2 different labels : side A is the classic Studio One in yellow but side B is the white Coxsone label like this one :
