Rocksteady on pressure Sounds

Post by Rootsman »

Just starting to build up my collection with more good music from Rocksteady period.

Apart from the obvious Studio One, Treasure isle, Joe Gibbs etc my knowledge is not too good.

So i was wondering whether these 2 Pressure Sounds albums "Red Bumb Ball" and Phill Pratts "Safe Travel" would be good purchases as They are both readily available.

Thanks

Dave

Buy both without hesitation! I also had a big Rocksteady gap in my collection, mainly because I didn't know where to start and I always associated it with bad Trojan compilations. I got "Safe Travel" because I generally buy all of the Pressure Sounds discs. I'm so glad I did.It made me wonder why I totally ignored the whole genre of rocksteady for the last 10 years of collecting reggae! I got "Red Bumb Ball" soon after. Since then I've got a lot more Rocksteady, but "Safe Travel" is still the one I play the most. Beautiful, soulful music.

the longer I'm into reggae now, the more I love rocksteady. By now my rocksteady albums would be the last ones I'd give away

I have the Phil Pratt one, it's ok but I like more one cd called 'Jamaican Rocksteady Party' or something like that, it's in a cheap edition, Castle-Pulse I think.
