Whats happened to reggae?
What happened to reggae?
why has dancehall has gone to the dogs, with idiots sayin gangsta 4 life or havin computerised voices and havin songs entitled
'one f--k a day'.
and proper reggae having less and less of the heavy bass sound. i mean new riddims like 'rub-a-dub' are good but theyre lacking the flair of the earlier stuff.

A sign of the time.
I leave that kinda negative music behind me and enjoy the positive vibes in reggae history and now-a-day reggae (enough positive vibes r spreading around now-a-day).

I agree that I am not as much a fan of the newer stuff. However dancehall has always reflected the attitudes and situations in the community. It seems to me during the early eighties, rub a dub error, the artist spoke of observations in the community, the message was normaly positive and anti violence. But as the music grew, people began adopting more of the bad man persona, as well as being indoctrinated into the principals of the "bad man" culture. I wish we could go back in the day, I am only 32 and did not have the oppertunity to listen and watch great artisits like Miller, Marly, dillinger, Yellowman, Wailing Souls etc in their prime when reggae music was truly sweet reggae music.

What I'm really not a fan of, is that singers and deejays just forgot how to chant in the good-old style. This singing revival is not my type, I preferred the one-note chanting of the mid 80s, but unfortunately there are no signs of this coming back, even to the dancehall scene. Also gone are the rough sound arrangements, a lot of newer stuff sounds way too polished for my taste.

In my opinion you can't say Reggae nowerdays is worse than in the 70ties, 80ties or maybe even 60ties because it's always a personal thing.
I say so although I myself am a lover of 70ties Rockers but I also like Rocksteady, 80ties Dancehall and even some of the stuff that comes out of Jamaica nowerdays.
The change was just a natural thing and if you make Rockers music for let's say 40 years there would come the day the artists would repeat thereselves...
My english isn't that god, so I can't really express what I mean but i you look at reggae /dancehall from 1985 to 2008 without beeing prejudiced you probably would have to admit that people still make good music. Til Shiloh 1995, Garnett Silk early 90ties , sizzla ( at least till about 2004 ...i could go on for a while.

Nice attempt to make roots reggae in mordern times (2006) - no modern roots
