Re: Reggae Covers Of Famous Songs
here is a real stinker:
the Immortals (whoever they are) on Augustus Pablo Presents Rockers Story covering A World Without Love - a hit by Peter and Gordon on 1964 (written by Paul McCrapney - lord help us). in a rare moment of unrootsiness I suggest that the original is better though I havent heard it in years.
Now why is it that when I type an apostrophe the webpage goes nuts?
@Jason Allen - must check Millers cover of the Stylistics.

Burning Spear - Estimated Prophet. An early '90s cover of a grateful dead song. Perfect lyrics for Spear and a very nice track over all. On the "Mek we Dweet" album.

Re: Reggae Covers Of Famous Songs
It is no big secret that American soul/ R&B had a great influence on JAmaican reggae music!! Here are two very nicely produced cover tunes by Reggae artists we all know and love, both tunes early 80's stylee...
Carlton Livingston's "Second that emotion" (Live & Learn Disco 12") is a beautiful version of Smokey Robinson's classic. Great horns version on Flip!
Also...
Junior "Bird" Moore (Tamlins) did a great cover of Curtis Mayfield's classic "You must believe me" (Masai Disco 12") well worth listening to. Plus another very nice Horns version on flip

"Nearly" cover versions - Sitting and Watching (Dennis Brown) = Sweet Surrender (Bread)
I'm the Toughest (Peter Tosh) = I'm Your Puppet (James and Bobby Purify)
(Have I mentioned these before, should have checked.)

Keathus I - Prophecy is loosely based on Leon Thomas's "Shape Your Mind and Die". How's that for an obscure cover?!
