Makasound reportedly in dire straits

Post by soma99 »

I received an SOS email the other day from the Makasound label in French. It seems they have fallen on hard times. They claim the downloading and pirating and what the call the "crisis of the record industry" is hitting them badly. On their website they are offering cheap priced packs of CDs - roots, inna da yard packs etc - and are asking that Reggae fans help them out by buying these packs:

Don't know how true it is, but I just wanted to give it some more publicity. After all they are a great label and have reissued some awesome Roots music over the years.

it's nice to give them support, it's a great label. If I don't have 60 € I'll at least buy the new mcanuff cd which I hope will be great.

Very sad to hear..
Makasound is a brilliant label. From the albums they re-release and release to the packaging and inner notes, they are truly a top notch company.
Their titles are some of the biggest sellers at our shop, Trade Roots Reggae, and always a must for those starting out collecting serious roots muzik.
Downloading is not only ruining the record company's but the customers interest in the Roots shops as well.
I truly sympathize with them, because us as Roots Muzik lovers, we can not afford to lose a company like this..
Any one know about a "mysterious" title they put out about 5 years ago titled "WANTED".. My copy got the five finger discount by someone I def know couldn't possibly have fully enjoyed its power..
Trade Roots Reggae will continue to do its part in helping this company survive for as long as it can.
Long live Makasound and long live ALL Roots Reggae Retail Stores..

Bad news! I saw those PACKS and thought they must be struggling.
I will not be ordering anything from Overseas for a while the way the AUS $ is now!
MAKASOUNDS have had some wicked releases...Well done guys.
I hope it comes good for you.
Lick it back Selecta!
