Is Ranking Trevor also Ranking Superstar?

Post by Rootsman »

Following on from a post by Satta, he asked me to listen to Ranking Superstar "Repatriation Time" and also to a Ranking Trevor album (I chose "In Fine Style").

He had doubts as to whether these two DJ`s are actually the same voice.

Having listened closely to both, I too am not 100% convinced. I have always assumed they were one and the same as if they were not I am sure someone would have picked up on this before.

But to my ears their is a very subtle different sound in tone and style.

I thought maybe it was because of the gap between when the 2 albums were recorded. So i then listened to "Presenting Ranking Trevor" and also "Train To Zion Dub" and compared them to "Repatriation Time" and there was also a difference tone in the voice.

Now is this my imagination ? Any thoughts.

Thanks

i believe they are 2 different dj's, i've heard his channel one output and he has a distinct style in his voice.

No, he is not. Ranking Trevor was at my studio, Al Paragus, today. (www.myspace.com/alparagus). They are two different people. That is a typo on the site here.

Trevor also just performed longside Downbeat the Ruler sound at Reggae Culture Salute this past Saturday, longside the Mighty Diamonds and the Melodians here in Flatbush.

You can see Ranking Trevor performing live here at Al Paragus HQ atw
