Riddims with very special instruments

Post by Litelet »

Hi...

After the *violin* tread, would be glad to know other old riddims with special instruments...

Of course Pablo's xylophon....

I have one in mind, with a pan pipe... Johnny Osbourne - Rich In Jah Love....

Or a killer harpsichord on Fabulous Five - Arabian reggae...

What else?

do you know one with clarinet? I love dis instrument...

Hi Litelet!
BTW nice horns mix on the Ancient Hornslines thread...
I play clarinet and always searching some tunes with this instrument...
I think in this album, track one sounds like a clarinet, but right now I'm not sure...

I'd like to find more tunes with clarinet too...

Check out Sowell Radics` lead guitar, played through a talk box on several DATC productions. Tip: 12" Late Nite Jammin / Late Nite Dubbin. Murder!!

Clarinet:
'Salt and Pepper' and 'You are Adorable' on Scratch the Upsetter Again

Harmonica:

'Some Like it Dread' - Big Youth
'Big Youth Special' - Big Youth
'Dread Organ' - Big Youth
'Blackman Message' - Big Youth - all on Dread Locks Dread (rec. at Randys, mix at J. Gibbs)
All very fine tracks with excellent harmonica/mouth organ

'Dubwise Situation'
'Last of the Jestering'
'Verdict in Dub'
'Wire Dub' Impact Allstars - Forward the Bass (rec. and mixed at Randys)

Also 'Miss Wire Waist' by Carl Malcolm of which 'Wire Dub' is the Dub.

That was fun!

Seems there were a number of Randys recording that utilized excellent harmonica parts

How about Richard "Dirty Harry" Hall's fife playing on numerous Yabby You cuts? :)

Or Lee Perry, blowing his watering can to imitate a roaring lion.
