Lee Perry / George Faith -To be a Lover

Post by Arkologist »

Hi

I was listening to the HIPO CD Ultimate Collection Songs Produced by Lee Scratch Perry.

Track 6 Is an extended mix of To be a lover and at the end of the track there is a DJ, I think Dillinger.

Is this a genuine mix or a bogus one. I have heard the extended mix of this track with Lee Perry toasting/talking at the end.

I don't know the HIPO cd simon. But you make it sound like it's yet another mix.

@Leggo:
The Dillinger only appeared on a Black Swan disco. The Black Art disco's both have a proper mix (without Dillinger).

I was under the impression this isn't a *mix*, but caused by some sort of *tape bleed*.
AnorakTrev definitely knows the background behind this track and has the Hip-O disc. Hopefully, he is lurking in the background and can shed light on this. :)

Thank you all

It does sound as though someone has put it together afterwards, as it seems a little out of time with the backing music. The toasting is the same as that on Roots Train from Arkology.

So I am not sure if its a true mix, a bleed or someone having a go with a bit of home mixing software. Listening to it again I think Scratch comes in on the last 5-10 seconds.

Isn't that a different mix?

Black Swan 12" inch disco has on both sides Dillinger toasting. So its definately caused by this tape bleed IMO.

6anbatte is correct , as is visitor .The Black Swan 12" disco is matrix no:- BS 2 . A-side is " To Be A Lover " by George Faith and the B-side is " Rastaman Shuffle " by the Upsetters .

( Dillinger ` bleeds ` in about 6 mins. and 50 seconds into the track . BTW the track on the Hiposelect CD of the " To Be A Lover " LP runs slightly fast as opposed to the 12". )

Many thanks to you all

What is a tape bleed? is it when an piece of tape that has been used once before is wiped and used to record a new track?

Was I right to say that the toasting was from Roots Train?
