Junior Delgado "Nine Fence Dub" with Skengdon All Stars has some wonderful violin segments.

Must say the dubs on the Skengdon Label are pretty awesome and in many cases better than the vocal A sides.

*on dis one... the very special organ of "7 wonders" that is pure madness, then the pan flute intro of Rich in jah love, then a very special Swiss (I'm) instrument used in Jamaica...*

*Finally not regage but a short clip of old s-A. clarinet pon percussions, just to show how great a dub could be with that instrument... Jazzy mood*

Although it says "harp" in RA I am pretty sure it's this album that Kishi plays a **[Jaws Harp (Jew's Harp)](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaws_harp)** on;

Great! Want to hear that jaw harp... The sound of it is so special... Never heard that album, is it worth getting, 6anbattle?

Here is a clarinet cut... Dont know the name, its a blank 7", its not properly reggae, it seems to be an early S.-A. version of "Africa We Want To Go"... Youll recognise the horns... But it has clarinet.

Hi Litelet

I do love a lot of the On U Sound stuff (the vinyl sounds incredible), but must point out that African Head Charge isn't reggae. Not sure what you would call it. Soundscapes maybe. It really is a bit of an acquired taste!
I know, for example, that one of our most popular *posters* absolutely hates anything On U! :)

If I am totally honest, and remember rightly, the jaws harp is pretty annoying! Possibly seemed like a good idea at the time! :)

I'll try and play it tonight just to a) confirm it is that album (might be "Environmental Studies") and b) to make sure it is as annoying as I remember. :D

Hey Simon

I dont hate absolutely everything on U Sound, I do have "Starship Africa" by Creation Rebel :)

I was also gonna say I have "Dub From Creation", Rebel Vibrations" and "Close Encounters from the Third World" but realised the were all on HitRun / Beat.

So its not a total hate relationship although U Sound really is a bit far off the beaten track for my liking.

Mmmh... Well, didnt even enjoyed the "space" sound of Starship Africa... that Ive resold immediately... As you say, its simply a matter of taste... So I wonder about that album, I should have a listen first...

I have nothing on U-Sound, but remember a serie of 7" that sounded quite good, something with Bim Sherman and a few other artists, with a pic cover... I love "Close Encounters" and was surprised to find that sound on Starship Africa...

I need to experience more the U-sound!

Ohmigawd, what have I started here? :D

Right, first off it is on "My Life...". It's track 1 - "Elastic Dance".

Secondly, it's Crocodile and not Kishi playing "Jaws Harp". In fact, Kishi isn't on the album at all. (Incidentally, Kishi plays "Chinese Harp" on "Environmental Studies" as opposed to "Harp". So there is another "very special instrument" for you.:)).

Is it as annoying as I remember? Possibly not. Would the track sound better without it? Most definitely yes!

Interested in On U? Check out this! Genius!!

Simon,

Think i`ll remain uninitiated and carry on enjoying the more traditional sound of reggae :)

This avant garde Eric Dolphy meets Kishi the Crocodile inna Adrian Sherwood style soundscape of tin can sound is just too much for me :D
