I just heard "Flesh of my skin" for the first time (sorry!) and it reminds me very much of the "Ghetto: Misfortune's wealth" album by the The 24-Carat Black (soul music, also a concept album). Both albums were released around the same time.
Would it be possible that Keith Hudson was inspired by this album?
Anyone else who has heard both?

yes it is, catalogue number CDSXE 090.
That album was at some point popular in hip hop (where they used samples from e.g. old James Brown songs and also from this album).
