you are right about the reissue, that's the one.

The other albums have some tracks backed by Steelie & Clevie instead of Sly & Robbie, but all contain great music and you can find some tracks on the Volumes 1-4, like

Agreed. Phang's stuff couldn't be classified as "digital" because Sly was still playing drums (both acoustic and electric) and Robbie was playing bass. No drum programming (save for the electric drum sounds), and a real guitar played by Willie Lindo. So really, not much different than what was being done ten years earlier.

The first digital age generally infers all instruments were plaid via a keyboard. By the time Gussie started his late 80's phase, most people were creating a hybrid sound of both "acoustic" and "digital", which has existed since then.

Many believe that Sly & Robby just laid the riddims and gave them to them (Phang and Robbie go back a long time....) but Phang usually chose the riddims, and was there in the studio when they were laid.

What was exciting at the time ws that Phang's stuff was generally more uptempo, and therefore conducive to dancing, than what reggae had become.....very slow, loping Roots Radics riddims that often seemed to pause mid-beat!

Phang also released tunes via Dynamic Sounds on their "Arrival" imprint. Many producers went back and forth from Sonic to Dynamic, thinking they could get a better deal, only to find that there was very little difference between the two.

I spoke to Phang a few weeks ago, and he is doing well. He said that there will be more Powerhouse releases on 17 North Parade in 2009, including a Sugar Minott release, with more pictures from that Beth Lesser woman.

Hello,
I hope someone can help me with a problem I encountered with my copy of George Phang Power House Selector's Choice volume 2.

I have the two 4cd editions. The problem I have is with volume 2 cd 1. The tracks 16 to 20 have major problems playing on several cd players.

For instance they don't play at all on my Xbox 360.
On my cd player and dvd player and old xbox it's sort of skipping time, but on my car stereo it plays fine.
My parents dvd player also skips but their cd player plays them ok.

Is it only my cd, do I have a bad pressing? (does bad pressing exists with cd's?)

Hopefully someone with the volume 2 4cd edition and a xbox 360 or dvd player can check it out.

Will be thankfull for an answer because I like to know if it's usefull to send my copy back and ask for a new one.

I know of the cdr problems, but this is no cdr.

It's as I said only occuring on the last 5 tracks from cd1 on volume 2 (4cd edition).
The other 7 cd's have no problems.

Is my copy just a bad cd that I should return for another copy or do all copies have the same problem? That's what I was wondering. What do you think?
