Wayne Wade & DJ Ranking Trevor - "On the Beach"

Post by TJ »

Greetings All,

Does anyone know the details of this alleged 12" disco-style mix of "On The Beach" ???

See quote from this webpage: http://www.nme.com/artists/wayne-wade

Wayne Wade - Biography
"Born c.1960, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Wade began his singing career in the mid-70s and was hailed as the latest prodigy produced by Yabby You through the Grove Music collective. His initial success came in 1976 with "Black Is Our Colour", released on the newly formed Mango label. The success of the single was followed with an interpretation of the Paragons' "Happy Go Lucky Girl", which demonstrated his refined vocals. The song was an instant hit, which led to the release of a discomix in 1977 featuring DJ Prince Pompado, with "I Kissed A Rose" on the b-side. ***Realizing the potential of covering Paragon hits, Wade recorded "On The Beach", which was equally popular and also surfaced in discomix style with DJ Ranking Trevor.*** Wade subsequently interpreted other rocksteady hits, including "Everybody Bawling", "I Can't Hide" and "You Don't Want Me". In the early 80s he recorded with Dillinger for his Oak Sound productions. Wade appeared alongside the producer and the Tamlins, Al Campbell, and Trinity for the successful "Five Man Army". Other releases included "Kings Of Kings", "Now I Know" and, with Tommy McCook, "Riding Forward". In 1981 Wade enjoyed hits with the Linval Thompson-produced "Round The World", "Tell Me What's Going On", "Poor And Humble" and "Down In Iran". By 1983 Wade settled in the Netherlands where he recorded a version of Lionel Ritchie's "Lady". Wade signed a contract with Epic Records that resulted in a summer re-release of "Lady", followed in the autumn by the less successful "Try Again". Wade continued to record but he has yet to recapture the past glories of his work with Yabby You."

DJ is Trinity. 7" recorded for Yabby You's label in 1977.
The vocal can be found on the 'Dancing Time' album.

I DO appreciate your replies, but just a couple points to "refine" my original question....

(1) I mentioned Ranking Trevor, because that's what the info below "claimed"...

(2) I do know of the 7" and vocal version on the "Dancing Time Album" (.. in fact I have that one, although not on vinyl -- apologies to Leggo ;)

BUT, all that being said, my original question is still out there:

(or, as you've mentioned, the DJ being Trinnie....)?

Meaning ???

It's still just a question:

*"Is there a 12" disco-style mix of "On The Beach" done by Wayne Wade & DJ [...uhhh...Trinity] ???"*

If there's any source to come to with such a question, it's here on R.A. ---

Peace.

it doe's exist with a picture sleeve of Wanye wade on a makeshift beach, but i still say that it's not ranking trevor as the dj. i'll have to hear a sound sample to determine who it is.

I have this 12". The a side is On The Beach and comes with an uncredited dj cut following the vocal. This dj sounds just like Ranking Trevor. The b-side is untitled and only says Trinity on it. It is him and he rides a cut of Wayne Wades version of "Happy Go Lucky Girl". Then on the same rhythm (extended style) is a another unknown deejay doing a track he announces as Harbor Shark. It's not the dj cut by Prince Pampidoo that follows on the Happy Go Lucky Girl 12".

Thanks for the reply MgHifi! Sent you a PM...

Possible to provide any more "specifics" about the 12" ? ie: The Label? Other info that may be on the label? *Any info that might make an internet search for it a little easier & fruitful?* ;) :D
