Greetings people! I come from Greece and I know it sounds quite strange but roots reggae vibes are being spreaded here, as well! There are two very nice bands, both of them from Thessaloniki(north of Greece). "One Drop Forward" is the first, they are kind of "diy" band, they have released one EP, which they distribute independently. You can check them and download their songs(for free of course)at http://www.onedropforward.com/.

The other band is "Soulfire", they have recently released an lp named "Soulfire" as well, produced and mixed by Mad Professor. You can check them at http://www.soulfire.gr, but unfortunately there aren't any music samples there.

Roots Reggae is a conquering sound!! Irie!

Sweden, if someone really want to know...

Peps Persson & Peps Blodsband, that is what Swedish reggae-music is to me. Peps started of singing the blues until he discovered reggae in the 70s and formed the group Peps Blodsband. Some of his reggae is influenced with Swedish folk music which gives it a special vibe. If not all, most of his songs are in Swedish, except the blues songs.

There is actually a quote from a Peps concert that Bob Marley attended whan he visited Sweden in the seventies, goes something like this "theres two places on the earth where they make good reggae, Jamaica and Skåne." Skåne is the part of Sweden where Peps come from. Its a funny quote but I dont know how much truth that lies within it or how serious Bob was when he mentioned it.

Peps is in his 60s now but released a CD last year. Now hes got health problems and the drummer, Bosse Skoglund, got heart problems so there is probably not much time left for this group.

Another good group is Nazarenes, probably the best Swedish reggae group right now. Listen to some tracks @ http://www.nazarenes.nu/ heavy roots.

The local group Natural Way relased a nice CD called "1924" some years ago, you can listen to a dub track from the CD @ http://user.tninet.se/~qpp006d/ you can listen to tracks from the "new" CD too but I dont think it is near as good as "1924".

I love to hear reggae from different parts of the world, a very good Japanese group is Cultivator, japanese music tend to get very "poppy" though, but they managed not to.
