Johnny Clarke - Come Back To Me - Listen!!
This is one of my ten favorite tunes ever. On the "Give Thanks" LP, Ariwa. Somebody finally posted on Youtube. The sound quality can't match the vinyl and they cut the dub but it's cool nonetheless. If you've only heard 70's Bunny Lee productions of Johnny, get ready for a shock.

Great song! Is the whole album in the same vibe? Loving the vocal of and especially the dub.

Not really. It's a pretty singular song. Kind of a genre unto itself.kalcidis wrote:Is the whole album in the same vibe?

Leggo says it all and has taken the words 'offa my mouth'.
Looking at my Johnny Clarke collection it ends with 'Yard Style' and 'Give Thanks' from 1983 and 1985. That's it for the last part of his 'classic' career imo.
I know there has been the odd-one coming after 1985 until the new millenium and I wished there were some recordings from him during the 1990s roots revival, like for Bobby Digital or Philip'Fatis Burrell, sadly there wasn't any (albums I mean).
But only 20 years later Johnny has come back into true form and performance thanks to the 'New Roots Elders' from England.
I really enjoy 'Praise Jah' for Jah Shaka from around 2006 and must say I rate high the 'Sip it Up!'showcase for Gussie P from last year. Both rank quite along the Ariwa stuff from way back when.
Nowadays this might be called 'Big People's Music' but hey, that's what we are, or?

Praise Jah - Johnny Clarke and the LPs from 2006 was made in the early 90`s. The five LPs that shaka came out with in 2006 most of the tracks were made in the early 90`s.
Now the dub LP`s Roger Robin Dub Salute 6, Johnny Clarke dub Salute 7, Tony Tuff dub Salute 8 have just been released. http://www.dubvendor.co.uk/ 2nd down the page.
Not only were they over 13 years old but we had to wait from 2006 to 2009 to the dub lps came out.
I have been listening to these tracks and dubs of the lps for over 13 years on my shaka session tapes.
peace
