Eek-A-Mouse - Once A Virgin, Joe Gibbs 12" 1981

Post by goldfinger swe »

This was the very first 12" I bought, 1981 and I was 15.

You all know those very first special, personal tunes that carried you deep into the world of regga music. Once A Virgin with Eek-A-Mouse was one of those tunes for me. More than Wa-Do-Dem I bought shortly after.

Strange is that over the years this tune has never crossed my way again, just my own copy. A search on Internet gives nothing. I wonder what riddim it is and if there are any other artist doing it? Someone on this forum should at least own it too?

The flip side is named "Modelling Queen" with Joe Gibbs & The Professionals. Could be the riddim name of course, but a search gave nothing, again..

Thanks

I've got the 12". Can't really place any other songs on the rhythm. Will give it a spin and see if I remember anything.

I'm quite certain African Girl with Sugar and RD isn't on the same rhythm? Can't pull out the disco now since the gf is sleeping but African Girl is quite an uptempo major chord song (? ... if I recall correctly) whilst Once A Virgin is a slow minor chord rub-a-dub-monster.

I've got Late Night Movie on Vinyl. Although, I'm not that keen on it now.

Maybe I need to give it another go.

Keith that used to runny Daddy Kool gave me a copy many years ago, after they sent my a load of mail order stuff by mistake and I was honest enough to bring it back. Proving honesty pays off in the end.
