dub best suited for that particular state of mind

Post by flashman »

Maybe I'm dating or region-ing myself with this term but I assume you know what I mean: What's the one absolute
'stoniest' dub track? The one that best complements that particular state of mind?
I nominate "Long Life" on Prince Far I Cry Tuff Dub Encounter Ch. 1 !

I'd say most of Augustus Pablo's East Of The River Nile LP, Lee Perry's Super Ape and Return Of The Super Ape are always worth cueing up "for that particular state of mind" give or take a couple of tracks.
PS, no bogarting!

I love those...but I have a confession to make: In 30 years as a Reggae fan, have never listened to them in "that particular state of mind".

(Maybe I'm not a "true" fan? :))

Another vote for Super Ape - a great album, but when you're in that frame of mind, you'll swear that you can hear the extra twenty tracks Mr Perry claims he was getting from the extraterrestial squad!

'River Stone' by Zap Pow sounds lush and lovely.

And the last track from 'Sledgehammer Dub', a version of 'Tribulation' by Dennis Brown, is a favourite of mine for spliffy listening.

'Dub Fire' by Aswad sounded pretty damn good the other night too.

Hmmm. I'm hungry....

I got a roots/dub mix in the off topic session that goes well with hash, gum or sess. Tested.
