Collecting Pressure Sounds vinyl

Post by buzzlulu »

Similar to my previous post regarding B&F - are there any bad Pressure Sounds vinyl releases or are they all essential must haves?

Thanks

some pressure sounds releases are not remastered with the same care as the typical B&F release but overall I love them all. Typically it doesnt sound like PS puts the time, energy and money into remastering that B&F does (or did) and that shows with hiss, clicks and pops etc coming through in PS releases more than B&F. Often times too PS releases have errors in liner notes and/or track lists but nothing too terrible.

Thanks for the reply. My intention was more towards the "music" rather than the remastering - particularly were there any releases that were not that musically enjoyable - ie similar to the Tree of Satta release on B&F which seems not be held in high regard.

as for the music i think PS keeps up a very high standard though some of their releases really are not my cup of tea. examples would be that hip reggae world of herman chin loy (kinda kitchzy like the title implies), that red bumb ball one (not a big rocksteady fan myself) or those joe gibbs dub excursions (too much gratituous special effects, like phones ringing, toilets flushing, etc thrown in) but i would imagine just as many love those as not. and believe me for every clinker in their catalogue (to my ears anyway) there are twenty great ones. i esp recommend the bim sherman collection, joe higgs life of contradiction, drum sound channel one, life goes in circles, the augustus pablo releases and the micron collection, every mouth must be fed just to name a few of their relatively recent releases. really you cant hardly go wrong with the label and their releases are really a lot broader in scope than B&F which mostly specialized in bunny lee productions.

check this - it exsists on vinyl:

but on the Pressure Sounds website the vinyl is not available, seems to be sold out.

VP sub-label for classic re-issues has also good Joe Gibbs stuff and will continue in the future:
