Deepest prophetic spoken vocal speeches in tunes....

Post by Litelet »

One thing I really love, but that is pretty rare in 70s reggae, are those killas spoken intros.... It can uplift the tune adding a strong mystic mood to it and if the song is dread, it helps to start directly into the deepest meditation...

Burning Spear is probably THE precursor in this style with his '69 Door Peep at Studio 1... Acapella intro and almighty.

Few days ago I was pulling up and up, the intro of the Bristol band BLACK ROOTS, *In Session*, with the tune "Tribal War". The spoken intro kills....

There are a few others. I remember a tune on SEBA by Ras Abarahi called *Suffering Time*. The vocal is weak except a wicked rasta speech in the middle, kept on the dub side...
here is it: http://www.divshare.com/download/6415315-fae

So...

Which others would you add? I need some more dread spoken parts in roots chunes!

Thanks ital

Yeah breda Rootikalist, that spoken DJ version kills!! I really love it. I had only the Selena mix until recently and realized how much I lost time when I heard the Fari talk on 2nd part... murder!

In this style, 83 Struggle by Fari (speaking) and Ashanti Roy (singing) is tuff too.

yes true , 83 struggle is big too!

I had the Selena 12'' but i sold it and i take the 2 7'' cry tuff...both versions are great but the Far I cut is more similar to my selection.

Other killer intros are :

A.Clarke & I Roy - Blackman Time (dj cut to Slaving by lloyd parks)
Snuffy & Wally - Dreader Mafia

But my favourite...

on LP African Dub all Mighty Chapter 3 (Joe Gibbs)
Chapter 3!
