@Jahlionyouth - one of the tracks on "Many Moods of Alton Ellis" was recorded at the Black Ark but I can't remember which one, don't have the record handy but it was the last track on one side (and a bit scratchy on my copy).

"Children are crying" or somthing like that on the "Crying Over You" riddim track. Alton didn't voice it at the Black Ark.Return of Jesco wrote:@Jahlionyouth - one of the tracks on "Many Moods of Alton Ellis" was recorded at the Black Ark but I can't remember which one, don't have the record handy but it was the last track on one side (and a bit scratchy on my copy).
Theres atleast three songs by Alton Ellis (aka Action Ellis) produced by Lee Perry before Black Ark era.

Gregory Isaacs fi true. Mr. Cop is so nice, too bad there's no more from the same sessions. He's credited with backing vocals on Heart of the Congos, but I haven't really noticed his voice coming through.

Re: Dream Black Ark album
the heartical rootical vocal stylings of Prince Alla on a Black Ark album would be magical.
Bosrah is such a great track though it is a Tappa Zukie production recorded at Black Ark but not produced by Perry.
Or Earl Zero, or Phillip Frazer.
Freddie McKay perhaps?
Mighty Diamonds...Leroy Smart...Jacob Miller...Johnny Clarke...Hugh Mundell...Culture...Cornell Campbell
Is there any Junior Byles Black Ark stuff? seems all I have by him predates the Black Ark golden era. All great but...

"Curly Locks" was done at the Black Ark! According to Watty Burnett. Theres also "Lorna Banana" and "Girl Next Door". But Junior Byles by 1975 had mental problems and attempted suicide.ACEtone wrote:Is there any Junior Byles Black Ark stuff? seems all I have by him predates the Black Ark golden era. All great but...

well I was referring to what I would consider the artistic high point of the Ark at the time of the Congos lush saturated tropical sound. The early Black Ark stuff while good, to my ears sometimes sounds inchoate - yet to reach full potential...

Indeed. If you will read my last post and the last sentance it will explain why byles wasn't there.ACEtone wrote:well I was referring to what I would consider the artistic high point of the Ark at the time of the Congos lush saturated tropical sound. I disagree. Only the alternative "curly locks" cuts, "long way", "thanks we get" and "cutting razor" were done at black ark.vtov wrote: a lot of tracks on the Curly Locks compilation have that Black Ark sound
