Studio One to polished!! Must be listening to the Soul Jazz represses. At least the needle on the record player knows its way around the original Studio One pressings.

"Tongue In cheek": meant or expressed ironically or facetiously, ironically or as a joke.
This term probably alludes to the facial expression produced by poking one's tongue in one's cheek, perhaps to suppress a smile. [First half of 1800s]
---------------------------------------------------------
Meaning #1: cleverly amusing in tone
Synonyms: bantering, facetious
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The adverb tongue-in-cheek has 2 meanings:

Meaning #1: in a bantering fashion
Synonym: banteringly
Meaning #2: not seriously
Synonyms: facetiously, jokingly
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wikipedia: Tongue-in-cheek
Tongue-in-cheek is a term used to refer to humor in which a statement, or an entire fictional work, is not meant to be taken seriously, but its lack of seriousness is subtle. The origin of its usage comes from when Spanish minstrels would perform for various dukes in the 18th century; these dukes would silently chastise the silliness of the minstrel's performances by placing their tongue firmly to the side of their cheek. The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as "Ironic, slyly humorous; not meant to be taken seriously".

Since the year 2000 the reggae music has really gone down hill fast. Everyone can get an artist if they pay for it. People knock up a tune on their computer and get in big artists, what`s called `roots` music today is just middle of the road commercial pop music. They all like vocoders on the vocals, anything the show they can`t sing or toast. Even the ragga is soft now. They heve all forgotten how to make a decent rhythm and that the vocals are more important. And yet more version of old reggae tunes done badly. It should be getting back to a live sound, real timing and bands, not computer programming. The best tunes were made in a few hours not 2 months or even longer and it shows in the sound that is produced.

Oh Inyaki - dont try to back out if it now. You were serious really werent you?
See, people like me who have been living a lie (in my case close to thirty years of obsessing about something I obviously dont like at all) need a brave soul such as yourself to come out and say - it is OK to hate reggae. Reggae is totally rubbish.
You are a hero! Dont let them sway you from your frank dismissal of the finest music ever created. Well I mean, the crappiest music ever created. Im obviously not cured yet. One day at a time sweet Jeebus.
I will just take the vinyl and CDs out to the local republican book burning meeting.

(Why do apostrophes not work sometimes in this forum?)

I had a good laugh at this I must say...
I think you omitted several hundred other artists that are 100% rubbish, but I understand that it would take a lot of time to diminish the efforts of so many with a few keystrokes!

Funny thing, normally I'm considered as a moron nit-picking everything, but now I must say that I seem to like every artist and every style mentioned above, though some may not be so dear.

Often do I state that some 90% of reggae is listenable and that makes listening reggae such an expensive hobby.

But also I have some sore points. Latest one is Little Roy's 'Ticket to Zion', a Beatles rape and badly sung.

For some time I have been playing with the idea to ask if someone else finds 'Blackheart Man' uninspiring, but I was afraid of being expelled from the reggae community.

Positive vibes to this 'negative' reggae thread. Maybe it helps easing pressure and should not to be taken too seriously.

Well
apart from Black Uhuru who've never done it for me, other than the Jammys album most reggae artists are capable of being crap dependant on --material (loadsa awful c&w covers)speed of recording ie being hustled in and out of the studio, unsympathetic production--(Mighty Diamonds in Norleans with Alan Touissant) and just doing over to many tired tunes or toasts). Bunny Lee was particularly good at getting crap out of fab singers.
ps writing this while watching Tim Buckley on TV (another singer capable)of being crap in later life.
love Sisaket.

Ps i saw Far I in 1980 at Trinity in Bristol--pure pure crocus bag a collie weed!

ah no! Did you have to use the U word?
You have tainted the thread!

Though I did really like that Food for Thought track they did at the time. All very fast downhill after that.

I expect the moderators will revoke your privileges for a month and force you to listen to a strict diet of Grounation drumming for the rest of your sorry mortal life.
