Since the year 2000 the reggae music has really gone down hill fast. Everyone can get an artist if they pay for it. People knock up a tune on their computer and get in big artists, what`s called `roots` music today is just middle of the road commercial pop music. They all like vocoders on the vocals, anything the show they can`t sing or toast. Even the ragga is soft now. They heve all forgotten how to make a decent rhythm and that the vocals are more important. And yet more version of old reggae tunes done badly. It should be getting back to a live sound, real timing and bands, not computer programming. The best tunes were made in a few hours not 2 months or even longer and it shows in the sound that is produced.

See, people like me who have been living a lie (in my case close to thirty years of obsessing about something I obviously dont like at all) need a brave soul such as yourself to come out and say - it is OK to hate reggae. Reggae is totally rubbish.

I think you omitted several hundred other artists that are 100% rubbish, but I understand that it would take a lot of time to diminish the efforts of so many with a few keystrokes!

Funny thing, normally I'm considered as a moron nit-picking everything, but now I must say that I seem to like every artist and every style mentioned above, though some may not be so dear.

Often do I state that some 90% of reggae is listenable and that makes listening reggae such an expensive hobby.

But also I have some sore points. Latest one is Little Roy's 'Ticket to Zion', a Beatles rape and badly sung.

For some time I have been playing with the idea to ask if someone else finds 'Blackheart Man' uninspiring, but I was afraid of being expelled from the reggae community.

Positive vibes to this 'negative' reggae thread. Maybe it helps easing pressure and should not to be taken too seriously.

Well
apart from Black Uhuru who've never done it for me, other than the Jammys album most reggae artists are capable of being crap dependant on --material (loadsa awful c&w covers)speed of recording ie being hustled in and out of the studio, unsympathetic production--(Mighty Diamonds in Norleans with Alan Touissant) and just doing over to many tired tunes or toasts). Bunny Lee was particularly good at getting crap out of fab singers.
ps writing this while watching Tim Buckley on TV (another singer capable)of being crap in later life.
