Fatal Dub - purportedly by the Revolutionaries

Post by ACEtone »

Is this one of those fake dubplates i've been hearing mention of recently? Anyone know?
The basic tracks are the real deal but they sound like someone mucked around and added a few poorly timed effects and possibly a bit of keyboard instrumentation.

The delays and reverb sound all wrong for the time. Digital crap. Also sounds like fake surface noise added for 'authenticity'. But then there have been legitimate reissues with similar anomalies.

I'm content to put it in the trash.

And if this is an unscrupulous cash-in - why bother? It really is not that hard to make new music...

no it's a real 12" on ballistic label, ever since i've misplaced my copy in the old country i've been trying to obtain a new one since then. but i love it, i usedto spin it to disturb the neighbours back then. but is there a digital version of said 12"?

really? any idea of the production credits?
Some of it sounds like current effects applied to original 70s riddims
There is a digital version if you look in the right places.
If I can remember where I 'found' it I'll PM you...

also it is four tracks. Is that usual for a 12" 45?

Fatal Dub is definately genuine.

It was released never promoted as a 12" single but as a 4 track EP

Tracks titles are

Cardiac Arrest
Heart Failure
Rigor Mortis
Post Mortem

Produced by Joe Joe Hoo Kim
Engineered by Ernest Hoo Kim
Released in 1978

@Rootsman
Thanks for the credit info. Very helpful. I knew it was Channel One but good to know the engineering credit too.
I'm still baffled by the very modern sounding delays on these tracks...
Was it a 10" or 12" just out of curiosity?

@Dudley, check your messages.

Thanks for clearing this up.

I am still surprised that it is the real deal. Maybe whoever ripped the copy I apostrophe-found-apostrophe messed with the sound a bit. Dunno. Think I know this time and sound. OK with me for me to be wrong every once in a while.
The Channel One Dubs would not be my favourites though there are some really good ones. This sounds to me like somebody doing a Channel One Dub rather than the real thing.

Still - the delay - does it not seem a bit odd...?

My $ are spent on rent and food and kids stuff and the occasional studio improvement, such as just recently a new pair of pick ups for my Suzuki Jap Fender Jazz knock off. A good and justifiable investment for $30. So...finding rather than buying as long as the facility for such remains intact...and I have several hundred CD Vinyl to keep me amused for quite a while...

I've always had the Ballistic one from a long time ago and never questioned the authenticity of it.It sounds pretty Channel 1 to me
