what happened to roots foundation records ?

Post by benjamin »

In the same line of topics as the auralux one please let me ask about that label. It seems nothing went out from them lately although they have published the crucial Sylvan White album "Africans Unite" in 2001.

Here is a nice article/interview about them :

Anyone know if they have projects to come ?

I'm pretty sure that that was a one time deal....Aaron Yarborough financed the releases on that label....of productions by Linval Thompson(Yami LP) and Delroy McKoy (Sylvan LP) and some U Brown, Cornell Campbell, Ashanti Roy, prince allah, donovan joseph...Etc. Some of thiose were vintage tunes, some of them never before relaesed, as well as tunes with vintage riddims voiced over more recently- good stuff, all of it! Even though Aaron got a co-production credit, that was mainly due to his financial backing, less his actual studio production. I would not expect there to be any other releases from that label ever again.

on a side note...But I think related...
Did anybody pick up any of those Tree of Life 10"s back in late 90's/2000-ish? About the same time as the Roots Foundation releases, I've always had a feeling that those too, were atleast co-financed by Aaron Yarborough, but no production credits were given. I believe there were three of them released, I'll have to double check the artists, but I seem to remember, Donovan Joseph, U Brown, Cornell Campbell having tunes...and I think one more artist too (C.Livingston?).
Anybody have any insight on this?

i believe tree of life was a later offshoot of roots foundation or maybe the other way around. i bought up all those when they came out but they are pretty much long gone now. at least a couple of that crew moved out to california north coast i think and put on a couple of good shows here before disappearing again.

i especially thought that farmer be wise 10" (might have been a 12", i forget) was a particularly cool arrangement.
