jamdown - image of africa

Post by benjamin »

Ites

I just wanted to ask two questions.

First of all I just bought this LP on the original Epic Press (1980) in excellent+ condition except signature on the cover, I got it for 25 euros and I just found out that ebreggae sells it 170 dollars! Are they a bit optimistic or did I make a good deal?

Second question is about the movie. Did anyone see it, is it interesting, what's the story about, it seems hard to find no ?

Thanks bredrens and sistrens and enjoy the sounds of that great album.

Ben

ernie b's prices for vintage records are pure dreaming. if you mean congos image of africa, and you bought it for 25 euros (is a euro about 1.5 US$?) then i think you overpaid at that but maybe not badly. 170 US$ is purely a joke though, for sure.

I posted a reply about the movie weeks ago but i can't see it here....

I've been working at trying to get the film re-released, i'm just in need of some funding to make this happen. So all going well you will see a dvd release of this in the next 12 months and possibly a tv broadcast in france.

The film features Toots and the Congos. It's the only film of the Congo's from the time that i know of and you get to see studio performances by the band aswell as them singing fisherman sat on the beach.
for me the album Heart of the Congos is the best reggae album ever made and always will be, something special was happening in Jamaica at the time so to see some film from this time is very special.
The film is divided into sections each with the title of an african country. Toots was found working as a singer in a coptic church up in the hills before filming started.
A beautiful film which i hope we'll all get to see soon.

hi guys
no latter than yesterday i was talking to a senegalese friend of mine residing in france about the movie which advertisement i saw on a magazine back in 1980.29 years ago and still have the poster on my mind.well the friend told me that he is still keeping the poster and will scan it for me.he told me that it remains a mystery as for the man who shot or directed it.iam curious to have some additional info about it.
