Re: Life & Debt - the IMFs raping of Jamaica
Love to see how this 'Life+Debt' documentary has provoced such a disccusion. These kind of discussions will always end like this because is is all down to faith and differing religious beleifs have always caused wars and fighting.
People will never agree on these type of things because no one knows the truth, so everything discussed when it comes to religion and life, god is all speculation.
But i find it interesting to see how some people put others down because of thier beleifs, this is a typical human trait, name calling gets us no where, even though there where no physical names called, i see some people trying to make others look small by their beleifs which is sad. It's better to try and educate and share your own views rather than to fight people and to put them down.
I always thought the word 'Maya' referred to material illusion, and nothing to do with the devil or satan. But the illusion created by the society we live in and the material things around us as opposed to a physical illusion before our eyes. But i'm no expert. but i do think Hinduism and the vedas to be one of the great ways of looking at life, and i find Rastafari has alot of similarities to hinduism which i won't go into.
One more point, quoting something someone said:
"Scientists have not yet been able to disprove the existence of God. And never will, you just can't prove - or disprove - this"
I sometimes find that peoples definition of the word God can be so different. Some seem to think God is a physical person which i find hard to beleive but to me the statement above is untrue, i do have proof of god(a creator). The word God/JAH to me refers to the creator of everything, the universe and the world+everything in it. The proof is before us all, the fact that it is there to me means that their is a creator, but again i guess it boils down to faith and my beleif in the law of science, eg. everything has been created by something.
You either beleive that something or somone created everything or maybe you beleive the world is just hear and there is no higher power behind it, but i think that an unlikely scenario.
We are all proof of God, the earth we stand on is my proof, and the air we breath, but what God is remains a mystery.
but getting back to Reggae, the one thing i think we can all agree on is that Reggae is a special kind of music which has the power to tape into something alot more spiritual than most types of music, this is why i think it is so popular.

By the way, has anyone seen Stephanie Blacks other 2 films, H2 worker and Africa Unite? H2 worker is a great film about Jamaicans who travel to florida to cut sugar cane and shows how they are exploited and work for pennies each year, very good film.
