Roy "Blackbeard" Sinclair

Post by Nohay Bma »

I've just bought the "Rich man poor Man 78-80" from Barry Brown (i'm a great fan of Barry). On the disc Roy is presented as Rodguel (and i've found Roguel on web).

I've never heard something about this producer and information are very poor about him. I've just found some little information about the "Ring craft posse".

Can you tell me who's this man, or give me a good link?

Thanks & blessings. Nohay.

I think you are mixing up 2 different persons.. Blackbeard, better known as dennis bovell.. a UK producer.. and roy sinclair..an Jamaican producer who worked at channel one..

No mix up... This is writting on the disc. You are mixing up.. Sorry, but i don't talk about dennis Bovell (don't like english sound). here is a link you can see your error:

Roy (or Roguel, Rodguel) have a nick name and it's Blackbeard.

Ites for this little information (Tapper Zukie's brother), really interesting.

Blessings brethtren. Nohay.

From the Moll Selekta website;

"Rodguel "Blackbeard" Sinclair, Tappa Zukie’s brother, was Bunny Lee‘s right hand man for many years and meanwhile owns Tubby’s old studio in Kingston."

I see what has happened...it is the RA that has made the simple mistake.

I was looking at the link that NOHAY put above and noticed that the RA page ("Roy Sinclair also known as blackbeard") is confusing the two guys (Roy Sinclair of Rite Sound[UK]...and Rodguel Sinclair [Tappa's Brother] AKA Blackbeard of MR. Tipsy[JA]).

In fact the only two records on that page that are Roy Sinclair Productions are the Scattarock and Rite Sound LP's.

I've never heard Roy Sinclair referred to as Blackbeard but who knows, he could be also, and that would make three blackbeards in Reggae that I know of, including Bovell [UK]!

Rodguel "Blackbeard" Sinclair is a talented sound engineer responsible for some excellent mixdowns..."Ring Craft Posse" was the name he gave for the backing band on many of his productions...not sure of the players' names though.

I've got this really nice 12" EP (not listed on the RA)with four songs (Showcasae style) by Cornell Campbell from 1978 on the JA label "Gorgon" (no cover), Produced and arranged by Blackbeard nad just by listening, there is no doubt that it is yet another one by Tappa's brother, behind this one.

Good luck with that one Leggo

That EP is the "1978 Disco Showcase" on Gorgan that I have asked about and posted on several times before.

Its 33rpm from memory and its extremely rare.
